Subtemplates in ODT files

I am confused on how to use sub-templates in an odt file. Could you please give me an example. Can the subtemplate files be .odt files?

With OpenTBS, sub-template can only be XML files. it cannot be an ODT file.

With both LibreOffice and Ms Office it is difficult to insert a document into another because of all attached element such as named styles, pictures, charts, ...
