conditional mergefield?

Hi

I have a mergefield & another variable, e.g.

[myfunction.parameter;htmlconv=no][var.somevalue]

It seems the mergefield is done all the time, which is basically fine of course. I wonder if is it possible to NOT do the merge field (call the function) when the adjacent value 'somevalue' is empty?
